Chair Before and After

I'm happy to show you a before and after chair redo that my crafty sister did for her home.
I have 5 sisters and she is the oldest.... the one I call if I have a question about pretty
much anything and she always has an answer ( even if it's not necessarily what I want to hear)
anyway on to the chair.   I only have before and after photos because she's a little like me and
got caught up in her work.... needless to say the in between pictures just didn't  happen,
So These are the photos she was kind enough to send me:

Before
Kinda yucky... and is that a rip in the seat fabric?

                                                                        and TA DAH!
THE AFTER :)

Personally I don't know where she gets the patience for some of the things she does.....
I'm pretty sure it wasn't easy lining up all those stripes and

Look at all those little nail heads...   but  doesn't it look great?!

Happy Crafting,

Suitcase redo

I got this suitcase at a thrift store for a dollar.....
Now it looks real pretty in this picture, Except this is just a copy, I forgot to take a picture before I started this project and well unfortulately it did NOT look this good.
So anyway moving on   I decided to decoupage it and now it looks like this
and here is where I need help..... those edges where you can totally see where the papers end and start again??   What should I do there??    I'm thinking of sanding it a bit and maybe painting it with a brownish color to make it look "old".   Any suggestions??  I just can't decide how to finish it... so this is my "project in progress"   the poor thing just sits there half done, looking sad :(

I would love to hear your thoughts so leave a comment!

****update****
I finally finished this
I ended up using a mix of craft
paints to come up with a color to "age" the edges.
and now I love it :)

Something I Love Saturday III

So happy Saturday to you all!   I hope you are having better weather where you are than we are here.
It is miserably cold and grey and the rain is starting to fall as I'm typing.   It's an Eeyore kinda day.      and I'm sure I will be complaining about the heat when we get to July, but right now I would give anything for an 80 degree day full of sunshine.  So all of you who are having that kind of day....  I'm jealous.

But today is Something I Love Saturday and I am so happy to share with you that I finally have a blog button!!  It may or may not have taken me all day yesterday to get it on my page, but anyway its there for you if you have the desire to"grab" something :)   A little shout out to Ashley at Eisy Morgan for posting a tutorial for Gimp.   I love that so many people out there in the blogging world want to help and encourage us " newbies"  by posting great tutorials for making your blog better and more personal.

O and I almost forgot!   There were two things I wanted to share this Saturday, I jogged 1 1/2 miles today!! Not much you say???   Well it's a huge accomplishment for me and I have to say it felt great.
Annndd  now that I'm posting this on my blog I'm hoping it will help me to keep it up and maybe build up to  bigger lengths and a smaller jeans size.   I guess we'll see.

Boston

I know I haven't posted anything in a while.... it's just been such a crazy busy week and this poor blog got put on the back burner for a while, if you know what I mean.     But I did have some fun while I was at it.

I gave Red Sox tickets    ( at an outrageous price for standing room only! )  to my honey for his birthday and we went this past weekend. We stayed an extra day to do some sightseeing and  I  have some pictures to share with you and I gotta tell you....  Boston is a fun city!   Downtown reminded me a lot of home (Philadelphia), with all it's history and the  Quincy Market, ( kinda like Reading Terminal  here) this place had almost too many options for a hungry person :) and I didn't take pictures before the dessert, because I was busy stuffing my face.
this place had tons of good food.   we ate here Friday and Saturday

Look at all this yumminess!

Of course we had to get something  Boston Cream
and I just can't resist pecan pie.... it was so good

I really liked the Paul Revere House...taking pictures inside the house was not an option so this is all I got.    But I loved the inside.... it had furniture from way back when  and  I thought it was so cool and all , but I have to admit.... I was thinking the whole time how nice it would look with a fresh coat of paint and some new fabric.  Sorry historians  that's just the way my crafting mind works.

On Saturday morning we took a bus to see this church....

I have to say I was totally fascinated by the architecture, and my pictures just do not do it justice :(

It had beautiful stained glass windows that you can sorta see in this picture...

and I loved this section with the arch

this is one of the doors      it just makes me think of an old castle.
a reflection of the side of the church....
in the side  of this building.  It's  the tallest building in Boston and there are like a million windows....
below,  I'm taking this picture from inside that green and orange bus you see in the reflection      yes little things like this could keep me busy for hours      lol

next stop Fenway Park.      Although the home team lost, we had a great time!   My honey just has a love for all things sports and he was thrilled just to be at a game at "America's most beloved ballpark"

the famous Green Giant

This is me outside the Market .   see that infinity scarf ?   and you might notice that I added a flower to it.      tutorial for infinity scarf Here

and this is my honey :)   Love him!

and last but not least, we saw this and just had to take a picture...

Avery is my daughters name..... and you can read a little bit about that  Here.
and we had to get our picture taken under it.....   just felt special and right.

Spring Wreath

I was inspired to make a spring wreath the other day,  I had gotten this nest and
straw wreath at a thrift store,

I was all excited thinking this was gonna be a  quick and easy project.....   I was wrong.

First of all when I tried to take the plastic wrapper off the wreath it was shedding.... real bad.  Then I remembered I bought some pink crepe paper at the dollar store for some unknown reason.  lol
Pink crepe paper to the rescue!  I wrapped the whole wreath in the crepe paper...

ummm not EXACTLY as cute as I was picturing.... but I figured maybe when I add the flowers and use the scarf as a bow it won't be so bad...

wrong again.     Not cute at all :(   The tulips were WAY too big for the size of the wreath and that pink crepe paper was .....   no getting around it.... just plain ugly.
At this point it was hours later and yup still working on that wreath. Now I'm DETERMINED  to make this thing cute, even if it kills me.     Pathetic I know, especially when my Friday night is wasting away and I'm quickly running out of ideas.
Then I decided to make some rolled roses with some burlap I had leftover from making some curtains.
Next thing I know I'm making LOTS of these roses to cover up that nasty crepe paper.   It was starting to get pretty now, EXCEPT my door is white and so is the wreath, Aww man , can't a girl catch a break??
Then I had a light bulb moment....  Maybe if I just add some color on top of the roses it will stand out a little more.   So I made some felt roses, bought a bird and some eggs for $2 at AC Moore, glued them on and called it a day.  so here it is on my front door:

thinking I kinda like it.     especially that little bird :)

Maybe next time I'll just buy the darn spring wreath.

Hope you have a great day,
Debby

Something I love Saturday II

I am dedicating this blog to my baby girl who lives in heaven. She is the inspiration for pretty much everything I do these days.   My blog is a way to keep HER alive and to keep ME sane. I want to be able to look back on this a year from now and see that although my heart aches to see and hold her, life goes on and I HAVE found happiness again.
And since this is 'Something I Love Saturday' I want to share a poem I found....

             Loved From the Start
I’ve loved my child right from the start
A feeling that’s filled my entire heart
I went through the labor and suffered the pain
For many long hours with nothing to gain
I’ve spent sleepless nights being awake
Though it’s been a while my arms they still ache
I’ve sat and I’ve wondered of how she would grow
The love of my family that  she’d come to know
The sound of her voice as she learns to talk
Watching her steps as she tries to walk
I have a child that I really love so
I am her mother yet nobody knows
I spent all those months feeling her grow
I’ve lived through it all and have nothing to show
I don’t get invited to chat with young mothers
Because I don’t have a baby like all of the others
I’ve got some stretch marks that I’d like to hide
But I don’t have a pram with a baby inside
The people I’ve known for so many years
They now avoid me, which adds to my tears
I don’t know how long I’ll be feeling like this
But one thing I know my baby I miss
When Mothers Day comes it will be very hard
I won’t have any flowers – not even a card
And just because she’s not here with me
I still have a daughter I wish I could see
But one thing I know and this is for sure
I’ll be her mother for evermore.

T-shirt into skirt

I made this cute little skirt from a mens t-shirt I bought at a thrift store.

I followed the tutorial I found Here.
I just changed it up a bit by adding the white material on the sides for a stripe,  For the scrolls,  I  used freezer paper and cut the scroll shape out....   then  ironed (with shiny side down )  the  negative space of the scroll onto my skirt and painted it with some acrylic paint I had.
Then I made the roses out of the leftover t-shirt and white materials.   and because I wasn't sure how the flowers would hold up in the wash, I just glued them onto a pin.  It will also be good so I can change the flower if I want.
